Dear Parishioners and Friends,
We continue to celebrate the newness of life in our risen Lord and Savior. We honor our Creator in the splendor, richness, and diversity of creation. As faithful disciples of Jesus, we are especially called to cherish, value, and protect human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Living in the world which often degrades the gift of life, and promotes confusion, fear, and death, we are exhorted to proclaim the Gospel of Life in word and deed. Pope Francis says: “We do not resolve world problems by eliminating a human life. Among the vulnerable for whom the Church wishes to care with particular love and concern are unborn children, the most defenseless and innocent. The victims of this throwaway culture are precisely the weakest and most fragile human beings – the unborn, the poorest, the sick and elderly, and the handicapped.”
As the election season approaches, Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups, are circulating a petition to include “a right to abortion” in Michigan’s constitution. This radical proposal comes as the U.S. Supreme Court considers the future of Roe v. Wade. Archbishop Vigneron writes: “Should the Court overturn that decision, laws in individual states will govern access to abortion. Current Michigan law bans abortion. Our opposition to this proposal, and indeed our opposition to abortion, is rooted in a clear witness to Jesus Christ and our understanding of the inherent, God-given dignity of all people, including the unborn. To sign this petition would be to actively participate in the promotion of the great evil of abortion. When we reject this proposal, we must simultaneously commit ourselves to creating and supporting clear and realistic alternatives that serve to protect and benefit both mother and child.”
May the God of Love bless our efforts to uphold the value and protect the dignity of all human life! I encourage you to learn more at: aod.org; supportmiwomenandchildren.org; Right to Life of Michigan; Michigan Catholic Conference.
In Christ’s abundant Life,
