Dear Parish Family,
Have you ever bumped into or reconnected with someone you used to know, but has
been absent from your life for a very long time? Memories can either be vivid or fade
over time depending on circumstances. When reconnecting with friends or family, we
often remark “where did the time go?” Recently, I attended a funeral of someone I
thought I used to know quite well, only to be somewhat surprised by who they had
become over the last several years. Eulogies create thoughts of sharing, laughter,
sadness, or the forfeiture of separated time, and as FR Stanley would say “create a
mosaic of who this person is.” Many of the incredible attributes of this gentleman
were reaffirmed, but then there were the time lapses of how uncertain his life had
become. He was smart, funny, caring and kind, but then, he added unsettled,
curmudgeonly, and absent.
Life in its sometime tragic brevity shows how we are able to do great works of charity,
through our actions of interest and listening.( Mother Seaton) He did this! We all face
each day with some kind of obstacle or trial. However, we must try to be the best version
of ourselves. When life gets particularly difficult, it important not to forfeit our best traits.
As we walk our faith journey, the Holy Spirit inspires us to chisel away our vices and
cooperate with God’s grace and grow in virtue.
In the end, God’s loving kindness, wipes away our weakness and supports who we truly are.
May our loving God bless you!
Mary Jo
