“No acts of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” This quote comes from Aesop written in the year 564 in Greece. You may know that Aesop wrote many fables that are still used today, including “The Tortoise & the Hare and The Lions Share.” It was so evident the acts of kindness demonstrated by many of our parishioners this past weekend, as we celebrated Confirmation and Mother’s Day.
Have you observed - the craziness of drivers, with little regard for the safety of others, the lack of civility when waiting in line for something, the lack of phone manners, and in general the lack of kindness? It is difficult to believe there are even a few incidence such as this in church. We lead by example and it takes so little to share an act of kindness.
The other day while waiting in line for a diet coke at McDonalds, people were restless and appeared anxious while in their cars. However, when I approached the window to pay, I was informed that the gentleman in front of me had paid for mine. This certainly changed the paradigm. My wave thanking him was acknowledged as I paid for the car behind me. It was easy to see as I drove away, what became a chain reaction of kindness.
Smiles and helpfulness are free! Wouldn’t it be awesome to see others create this chain reaction of charity, compassion, kindness, and sympathy? My mission is to be more aware and share many more acts of kindness. Won’t you join me? St Basil tells us “He who plants kindness, gathers love!”
May you be richly blessed this week by our good and gracious Lord .
