Dear Parish Family,
St William of Vercelli is an Italian saint born in 1085. His feast day is June 25th and is frequently called William the Abbot, He was known to be a hermit and the founder of many monasteries in Italy. He began his road to sainthood through a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain at the age of 14.
His holiness brought him many followers. His rigorous discipline brought whispers and when they reached him, legend has it that he left his community and began building a church on Monteverge with only the assistance of a donkey. A wolf devoured the donkey and William commanded the wolf to take the donkey’s place, not wanting to interrupt God’s work. St William teaches us that even when bad things happen, God is with us and that bad things can actually lead us to good things in life. What an example!
Please pray with me.
Dear God, please help me to recognize that we can turn bad things into good things. Help me to know and trust that you will find ways of carrying out your plan for my life. Amen.
Mary Jo
