On February 9th, the Universal Church will celebrate The World Day of the Sick. What does this mean? We all know someone or even us who are unwell. Pope Francis invites us to become “pilgrims of hope”. St Paul offered an encouraging message: “Hope does not disappoint.” (Romans 5:5) and strengthens us in times of trial. What is the number one thing for healing? Not to be alone!!! We are all capable of bringing strength and healing to those who are suffering.
I am sure you never told mom or dad that you were not feeling well or perhaps tried the pathetic cough to get a day off school or at least try to postpone that test. Now as adults, we see our brothers and sisters struggling with severe or debilitating illness and we may want to hang our heads. There are times when we feel powerless to help our loved ones. We must remember that we need a source of power greater than our own. God is here for us. His grace, his providence and strength are his gifts to us of His Spirit.
We will pray for the sick through this prayer.
Dear God, Bring strength to those of us who walk with the sick. Bring Hope for all who the path of healing is long or may not end. Let us never forget your special care for the sick, that they may know they are precious and loved. Amen.
