Dear Parish Family,
A beautiful way to remember a loved one is through a Mass Intention. This is an ancient way for us to pray for an individual either living, deceased, or a special need. Mass intentions are offered to God as prayers of intercession and thanksgiving in and through the Eucharist. Many find this as a way to remember someone who has gone to their heavenly home, rather than sending flowers or a donation to a charitable organization. We have cards that you can send both for the living or the deceased. These indicate the person requesting the Mass and the date it will be. We are happy to help over the phone or in person.
St. Valentine has the reputation as the patron saint of love - this is not a matter of verifiable history but of faith. The tradition of flowers is deemed to come from St Valentine reaching out a window prior to his execution, and throwing flowers from a branch into the wind. February is believed as the mating season for birds, thus doves flying into the sky with love. Like faith, love is an emotion that touches us deeply. We all need to know we are loved from the time of conception until death. It sustains us while bringing hope and joy. We feel the value of love as we know the scriptures tell us “God Is Love.” When we love, we care for and about others as God cares for us. Although this has in many ways been deemed Hallmark Holiday, isn’t this the perfect time to think of those we cherish in a very special way? Let’s make February 14th special, by writing a note, granting a wish, or whatever way you choose to remember a loved one.
We are reminded by the AOD totally disregard requests for cash, checks, or gift cards to be sent as part of the SCAM regarding priests. None of our priests would ever request anything of this nature.
Reminder: When Fitzgerald Schools are closed, the parish office is closed and Mass will be canceled for that day.
Blessings,
Mary Jo
