Dear Parish Family,
Please raise your hand or stand up if you are one of the fortunate few to not be caught up in the “hustle bustle.” of the holidays? Try as I might, being better organized, and the endless lists that get longer by the day, have a way of waking me up in the night with the resolve to accomplish more the next day and be more at peace.
While attending an Advent Tea, a priest recanted a story about his best Christmas. With all of the anticipation of an eight-year-old, he couldn’t wait to see what was under the tree for him. Much to his surprise, there were no wrapped packages. His gifts of action figures were placed around the house in an almost scavenger hunt situation. He loved the search and the treasure. Not until he was in his late twenties, did he learn the reason for the unwrapped gifts. Mom simply ran out of time! This is a lesson for us to improvise, not stress out, and feel blessed by whatever joy we can bring to others.
As we pray for a more peaceful time during the frantic a activity of Advent, let’s pause and celebrate Jesus. The Nativity set or Creche reminds us of the journey of Mary and Joseph to bring Jesus into the world. Celebrating the Saints – Our Lady of Angels, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and St Lucy ignite thoughts of what these holy people experienced. We give alms and do acts of service for others. Nothing brings more warmth to our hearts than acts of kindness.
Advent blessings to all of you!
Mary Jo
