Dear Parish Family, Guilty – as charged! Do I complain – yes!! How about you??? Really, I think we are all guilty to some degree about sharing our complaints. Is this a way of sharing our dissatisfaction or annoyance – probably! In (Philippians 2:14-15) we are told “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless children of God.” Great reminder!!! Archbishop Vigneron writes “complaining leads only to discouragement and paralysis.” When we criticize, it can become a method of venting or sharing our negative thoughts and moods. Focus on the positive and the future rather than letting our dissatisfaction make us a magnet for negativity. Will you give God the opportunity to work on your behalf by trusting in Him or will you miss out by complaining? There are countless quotes from saints regarding this malady. Including “I must die to myself continually and accept trials without complaining. (St Bernadette)” From St Macarius “watch out for complaining. It only makes the situation worse and increases sorrow.” And St Benedict tells his monks, “Do not grumble!” As we heed the words of Pope Francis, “Complaining never helps us to find God.” Please join me in this prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your patience with me. Thank you for all of the good things in my life and help me to remember all of my many blessings. Amen Mary Jo
