Do you ever get a little lost and need to be redirected with prayer? What – when -where- how do I have a meaningful conversation with God? Remember when it was easy to fold our hands and say a simple “God is Great” grace before meals or kneel at night and recite “Now I lay me down to sleep?” We have a way of forgetting how to pray. Prayer doesn’t have to fit into a template. Our Lord knows what is in our hearts and minds. Then what is prayer and how do I pray? Questions like these speak to our longing to become closer to God and experience a personal relationship.
We have always been encouraged to pray for others as well as our own needs. Health - physical, emotional and financial, as well as safe travel among other things may acknowledge our need for God. We know that God can handle whatever we express in prayer. Of course, that doesn’t mean that he always answers our prayer in the way we had hoped.
Fr Stanley often reminds us of the value of silent prayer. After the homily, it is particularly important to contemplate what we have just heard and give God the space to embed it in our thoughts and minds.
God is always reaching out to us. Let’s listen to what he says and then offer prayer of gratefulness. Mary Jo
