Dear Parish Family,
It is hard to believe that 20 years ago on September 11th, we watched with
horror as smoke poured out from the Twin Towers and then eventually collapsed.
We remember the nearly three thousand people who were killed in, New York,
Washington DC, and Pennsylvania. Many first responders have since died due
to their related work.
As we remember this tragic day, and we continue to pray for the families
of those who have gone to their heavenly home, let us also pray for lasting
peace and an end to violent acts of terrorism.
We all remember the time and place we first learned of this tragedy - many
In disbelief of what we were hearing and seeing. As someone whose son in law
worked across the street from this unbelievable scene, hearing the stories, vividly
picturing the description, and then learning of friends who perished, added to
the pulling of my heart strings. Three weeks after 9/11, we walked near where
the towers had once been, not fully believing the devastation until seeing it with
our own eyes. We prayed through tears and thanked God for those who had
somehow been saved, and for the many that perished. There are many heroes
that will never be fully recognized for their acts of heroism and charity. There is
a series on the National Geographic Channel called 9/11: One Day in America
which shows actual footage told through the eyes of first responders, people
who worked in the towers and bystanders. This examines the harrowing moments
of this horrendous morning. Lest we not forget!
May the loving God watch over our nation and the world.
