Dear Parish Family, "The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother." (St Therese of Lisieux)
When we think of our own mother, do we not see a lovely image in our hearts and minds? Was or is she one of the most beautiful women we know? Think of how our mother knew us, as she created this special dwelling place for our immortal soul before we were born. A mother may be biological, psychological, or spiritual. They nurture and care for us throughout our lives, be it here on earth or when they have gone to their heavenly home. They continually guide and teach us as we grow and evolve even into adulthood. How many times when we need a bit of encouragement, do we hear that gentle voice of mom saying, "you can do this"? Or when we are not quite sure - "is this a good idea or not?" Our mother channels us with her wisdom and guidance. Think of how our mothers have sacrificed and even suffered for us. Are we showing true gratefulness for this love? Abraham Lincoln shared, "All that I am, and ever hope to be, I owe to my mother." As a mother, grandmother and soon to be great grandmother, I know I am blessed! I am particularly grateful to have technology available that I am able to be in daily contact with my family. We do not geographically live close to one another, but our hearts and minds share great love.
We are blessed to have Mary, the Mother of God join forces with our earthly mother. As we sing, HAIL MARY, GENTLE WOMAN, especially the refrain of "gentle woman, quiet light, morning star, so strong and bright, gentle mother, peaceful dove, teach us wisdom, teach us love" often congers up strong emotions of a beautiful love, both past and present. When you hear this lovely melody, does it translate to a warm heart?
On Mother's Day, let's remember to honor our mother's and ask God to bless them in a very special way.
