Dear Parish Family,
Have you ever given thought to little things or ephemeral (short lived) events that happen
in your life? Did they bring you joy or sadness? Lonesco tells us “Only the ephemeral is of
lasting value.” Perhaps moments we cherish most in life, are the ones that last only a short
while. We have all heard about not fully appreciating the precious little moments in life,
if we did not have some negative experiences, ie: “the high’s and low’s.”
Scarcity increases where wonders are experienced – a perfect snowflake melting on our
hand, or the infectious laughter of a child, become memories we delight in forever. Am I
stopping to feel and absorb these special moments? Perhaps not as much as I should?
St Therese of Lisieux always spoke of “the little things.” It is often mentioned that “it
was her little ways” that brought her to Sainthood. She taught us “We cannot all do great
things. But, we can do small things with great love.”
As we begin this new year let’s all take time to cherish those ephemeral moments
and commit them to memory.
May our loving God show you these special times.
Mary Jo
