There are angels everywhere. As we open our eyes to those around us, we see the goodness of people making a difference in others lives. In art angels are often depicted of extraordinary beauty. The beauty of these earthly angels comes from their being servants of God. They act as guides, are benevolent, and have the means to lift us up. They give and make each of us better off in one way or another. Their spirit creates a divine light. Do you see them around you? Perhaps not with the dimension of wings, but rather with warm hearts caring for others.
Our guardian angel may indicate we need to look left at a stoplight and save us from a horrific accident. An angel of mercy rescues us from going hungry. An angel of healing, be it physical or emotional may be with us or the hands of a skilled physician. A messenger angel may be relaying a message between heaven and earth. We may not see these angels, but we know when they are present. At times, we can feel their presence. These angels are the spirit created by God.
St Thomas Aquinas said, “The angels work together for the benefit of us all.” Over this Christmas season, we saw the work of angels in so many facets. People were generous with providing food for our Food Pantry, baby things for mothers and babies at Image of God, Christmas wishes to our homebound through People to People, and the spirit of caring. There were treats shared. The delivery of a diet coke to help the recipient in need of caffeine. The heartfelt conversations of sincere wishes for a Joyous Christmas. Memories and traditions shared. Our angels that are part of the Christmas décor are lit and remind us that everyone has it within them to be the light of Christ. Let us all bring more light to our loved ones and those in need.
