Travel is a passion of mine behind God and family. Friends have long ceased asking about pictures from trips, because I have never taken a camera. Yes, I travel with my cell phone, but snapping photos simply doesn’t work for me. Wonderful sights and experiences are embedded in my mind. Mitch Albom recently wrote that “Somethings you can only capture with your eyes and can only store in your heart.”
This quote applies to experiences when we see the majesty of the Taj Mahal, a work of art such as the Last Super, hear magnificent music played in a concert hall with wonderful acoustics, view a breathtaking vista, hear the first words of a baby, receive the never-ending hug from a returning soldier, or remember the first time someone uttered “I love you.”
St Augustine reminds us: God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies gray and threatening, when our lives have no music in them, and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood the path with light, run our eyes to where the skies are full of promise; tune our hearts to brave music; give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age; and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life, to your honor and glory. What an amazing picture of life and how to capture it!
